The Warden, the mysterious figure holding you captive, has issued a new work order sending your team of prisoners on a Campaign. This event is made up of a series of expeditions, each of which will take you a little deeper into the dilapidated laboratory facilities known as “the compound”. As you descend, you will gain tools and resources to help you survive in a dangerous network of tunnels filled with grotesque creatures lurking in the shadows. If you complete all the expeditions, you can consider the work order settled and with it the Campaign.
You have been warned: GTFO is not your typical run-and-gun shooter. It's only for players looking for a challenge that really tests them.
A cooperative experience for 4 players
GTFO is designed for teams of four prisoners, so cooperation is at the core of the experience. If you're missing a person or two, you can always round out your team with bots that will follow you around expeditions, use stealth when you do, gain resources, and fight alongside you. They're a good fallback solution, but the level of communication and tactical combat that GTFO offers is best enjoyed with real players.
Prepare, explore and survive
Completing the Campaign requires a good strategy. Before entering the complex, you will have to decide what equipment, power-ups and weapons you want to bring. It is also important that the characters are balanced and know what to expect from each prisoner when things go wrong. Because they are going to twist, they always twist.
Don't wake them up
Stealth and coordination are required to survive as you make your way deeper into the compound. Many of GTFO's creatures are suspended in a state of hibernation, so that light, noise, and vibrations can wake them up. And it will be enough for one to know that you are there for all of them to find out. That's when things get ugly.
New mission, new Campaign
Every time the Guardian issues a work order, a new Campaign is launched and the existing one is deleted forever. Throughout the life of the game, new Campaigns will appear periodically to offer your team new ways to suffer.
